Hopefully, we can get some save backup option sooner rather than later post-launch. “The time period for this hasn’t been decided but as soon as we know more, we’ll make an announcement.”Īnimal Crossing: New Horizons is slated to come out exclusively for the Switch on March 20th. “Additionally, while this game does not support the cloud save feature on Nintendo Switch Online, we are considering allowing this software to use the ‘save data’ back-up feature for those who are Nintendo Switch Online members as a unique feature in case the software breaks, is lost, or stolen. No time frame is given for when this update will come about, either. Unfortunately, it seems the option definitely won’t be there at launch at this point going by the wording. Via the official Nintendo Japan website, as translated by VGC, the company is now considering adding the save backup feature in the case of the game being stolen or system broken. While both are bummers, it seems the latter could be fixed. It was revealed that the game would only allow one island per console, and also it will not allow for data backup and transfer. Take the case of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game sure to be one of the company’s biggest of the year by a large margin. Since Animal Crossing: New Horizons doesnt save data to the backup cloud like other Switch games, if an incident were to occur, you might lose all those hundreds of hours you put into your island unless you already manually enabled the Island Backup service. They are unparalleled in the level of quality and polish they can bring to a game, but when it comes to technical features the company can sometimes feel like it’s about three steps (or more) behind everyone else. And how my 3DS detects that I used a different save file.Nintendo is a weird company. It's just about the "one save file and one save file ONLY" thing. Please don't let this end in a "Nintendo is stupid" kind of flame war, that's not what I intend to do with this thread. Nintendo should think stuff like this over. 120 hours and a whole town lost forever After saving in the new town and switching back to the old town, game says the save file has to be deleted Wanted to start a new town in AC:NL, but keep the old town just in case I understand if there can be only one save file on one card, but it's still no excuse for having to delete my old file because I started a new game on the same system with a different SD card. When enabled, island backup data is stored periodically when no one is currently playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons on your Nintendo Switch system and the system is connected to the internet. When I want to use multiple save files then let me use multiple save files. Island backup and restore features are available after installing the latest game software version (1.4.0 or later). I love Animal Crossing and I will play this game to death (again), but it would've been nice if Nintendo would wisen up in that kind of thing. Why am I not allowed to have multiple save files with the same game on the same system? How does it even detect that I played a different save file on a different SD card? I may sound more angry than I actually am (I mean, I DID want to start over) but this is still quite a load of bull right here. I really don't know how this system does this (my guess is there are some special bits and bytes somewhere in the system reserved for this kind of thing) but once I swapped back to my SD card with my regular 120 hour save file I start the game up and it tells me that "This is not the last saved game" or some shit and that my save file had to be deleted in order to continue. Since I own the eShop version and this game's save file can't be backuped (for whatever reason) I thought I could just use another SD card, download the game again and swap between this and the other SD card to play both towns. Basically I just wanted to experience the beginning of the game again without having to destroy my old town. A function specific to Animal Crossing: New Horizons to move users and save data to another system is planned for later this year. I wanted to start over Animal Crossing New Leaf with a new town but I wanted to keep my old town just in case I wanted to go back to it. So I was forced to delete my Animal Crossing New Leaf save file of 120 or so hours because the game said so.
